Flawless walls and smooth, lasting surfaces begin with expert plastering and rendering. Our team delivers clean and consistent finishes across both renovation projects and new builds.

Plastering & Rendering in Devizes & across Wiltshire

A quality build deserves a quality finish. C.E. Bricklaying & Construction delivers professional plastering and rendering services across Devizes, Marlborough, Chippenham, Calne, Trowbridge, Melksham, and the wider Wiltshire and Bath areas. From internal skimming and dry lining to external rendering and decorative finishes, our team produces smooth, flawless surfaces throughout every project.

We handle all aspects of internal plastering including dot and dab plasterboard fixing, boarding to timber and steel studwork, and multi-coat skim finishes. For exteriors, we offer a comprehensive range of render systems including traditional sand and cement, monocouche through-colour render, and modern silicone render in various textures and colours, ideal for both new-build properties and renovation projects across Wiltshire.

Every surface is prepared properly and finished to a high standard, ready for decoration. Clean lines, sharp angles, and consistent coverage throughout, whether it's a single room re-skim in Devizes or a full external render on a new-build home near Bath. With our own plastering team working alongside our bricklayers and carpenters, we maintain quality control from first fix right through to the final finish.

“We were keen to get it fixed asap and were fitted in shortly after making contact. Very pleased with the whole process and the finished result.”

    Ceiling repair after a leak

    Plastering & Rendering

Inside: skim, re-plaster or dry line?

The right finish depends on what is behind it. Sound existing plaster or new plasterboard usually only needs a skim coat. Where old plaster has blown, cracked or been damaged by damp, it needs taking back and building up again. Dry lining with plasterboard is often the quickest way to a flat, true wall on new work and conversions.

Older solid-walled houses are different. Lime plaster lets the wall breathe and copes with slight movement, where a gypsum finish can trap moisture and fail. We use lime plastering where the building needs it.

We also handle the smaller jobs that matter just as much. One client had us patch and skim a ceiling after a leak; they were fitted in quickly and were very pleased with the whole process and the finished result.

    Outside: render that lasts

Render protects the wall as well as finishing it, so the preparation underneath decides how long it lasts. Beads at corners, edges and openings keep lines crisp and stop the render cracking where it is weakest.

On older solid-walled property, traditional lime render lets moisture escape from the masonry rather than trapping it. On modern extensions and new builds we specify a system that suits the wall and the finish you want.

    Our process

How we board and plaster a room

    1. Plasterboard

12.5mm plasterboard is either screwed to timber studs and joists, or stuck to masonry walls with dabs of adhesive.

    2. Scrim tape

Every joint is covered with scrim tape so the finished plaster doesn't crack along the board lines.

    3. Beads

Metal beads go on corners and window and door reveals, so edges are straight, sharp and hard-wearing.

    4. Skim finish

A smooth finishing coat of plaster goes over the top, ready to decorate once dry.
